Other
I am an energetic teacher with a number of skills, hobbies and
interests that inspire and add to my teaching practice. Other than receiving an
excellent education myself, I have been exposed to teaching as a profession because
my mother is a teacher and I grew up helping her. Throughout my studies I was
involved with community service that involved teaching learners of different
ages and abilities while being mentored by my lecturers and supervisors. Since
I received my teaching qualifications I have taught both mainstream and special
needs. I have taught Cambridge and the National curriculum as well as developed
individualized Education and Development Plans for special needs learners. I
have taught a broad range of learners, many have not spoken any English and
most have been second language English speakers. I have taught learners with a
number of learning disorders and disabilities, including autism, AHDD/ADD, Deafness,
sight problems and dyslexia. My current work is particularly challenging as I
am in a poorly resourced school and in addition to autism most of the learners
come from disadvantaged backgrounds and social problems. Being a ready learner,
my cumulative experience has made me a professional, effective and capable
teacher. I am very flexible in accommodating my learner’s needs and I maintain
good relationships with their parents as well as my colleagues.
My philosophy towards teaching is to be professional and to set an
example to my learners at all times in the way I present myself and interact
with them and others. I encourage respect in my classroom by myself being
respectful. I am a gentle teacher and I am extremely patient. I will always go
the extra mile to make sure my teaching methods are accessible to every learner
in my class. I have excellent classroom management skills and my classes are always
busy but controlled.
Some of my hobbies and interests include art, crafts, baking and
cooking, sewing and knitting. Keeping fit and healthy is a priority for me. I
run marathons, mountain bike and swim. I love being busy and I enjoy incorporating
my hobbies, interests and energy into my work.
I enjoy volunteering and doing charity work, especially when it
provides the opportunity to interact with people from different walks of life.
I am a keen learner. I will
always jump at the chance to study further, complete interesting courses and
carry out my own research.
